for christmas I decided to pack up my car/backpack and head out for a little adventure. my plan was to go to slab city and see salvation mountain on christmas day and then camp in joshua tree but 6 days later I still found myself in slab city. here are some photos from the car ride there. many more to come soon.

all I can say about this show is if you weren’t there you missed out. definitely the best live show I have seen in a long time. I got caught up in the mosh pit and hit myself with my camera a few times, it was quite the rush. im posting a lot of photos, I had a hard time narrowing them down so I hope you enjoy them.

I think it was exactly a year ago today I packed up my car and made the voyage from ohio to california. I was lucky enough to see my road tripping buddies, pete and kelley this past week in san diego. it was like a little slice of home.

here is some film I finally got developed of our exhausting 110 degree hike in the grand canyon.

if you haven’t heard of motopony, go check them out. NOW! they are an amazing group out of seattle who graced los angeles with two free shows yesterday at origami vinyl in echo park and one colorado in pasadena. robin pecknold, of fleet foxes, wrote “music is a kind of replacement for the natural world. that, before civilization or whatever, the world must have seemed a place of such immense wonder and confusion, so terrifying in a way, unthinkably massive and majestic. And that that feeling of mystery and amazement, is somehow hardwired into us. once the world became commonplace, mapped, and conquered, that mystery left our common mind and we needed something to replace it with and then along came music. I think she’s right, music is magic to me, transportative and full of wonder in a way that I have trouble getting from the natural world. All the human things that make the natural world so hard to connect with just aren’t there with music.” while watching motopony I kept thinking about this and how a really great live show can take you somewhere you can’t really explain. all I can say is their energy is contagious and their humble nature makes them that much more lovable. you also can’t beat being able to get up on stage and dance around with them. so, go check them out and enjoy the photos!

I spent this weekend helping some friends put in a garden at their house.  I’m looking forward to taking care of it, watching it progress and the satisfaction of our first harvest. Special thanks to Deirdre for helping me get all the beautiful plants and to Cairo, Mitch, Kyle and Scott for letting me invade their land.

I was hiking up at Griffith Park the other day and saw through the trees this awesome swing and knew I had to do a shoot there. Luckily, Ashley and Grant were totally down. They even laid  down in the dirt for me. What good sports! Couldn’t be happier for the two of you!!
